Gosainkunda Trek: Check it out

If you feel trekking is in your blood and you feel the rush of it at the thought of lush green valleys, forested wilderness and snowy peaks, then Langtang Gosaikunda Trekking expedition is all where you need to be. The Gosainkunda Lake is a freshwater lake in Langtang National Park in Nepal. It sits atop the altitude of about 4,380 m with an area of about 34 acres. There are many other lakes here and totally they cover up an area of about four square miles. Trekking along to Gosainkunda is fun and adventure for some, but to others like witch doctors, Hindus and Buddhists it more of a spritual journey and a pilgrimage.  The Gosainkunda area has great significance in Hindu mythology and it is associated with and considered as the abode of Hindu god Shiva. Gosainkunda Langtang valley also lies very close to the Tibetan border. This remote valley is surrounded by snow cladded mountain sides and peaks. It is an ideal place for trekking.

Trekking Experiences

Trekking covers the scenic valley of Langtang and the mountain lakes at Gosainkund. You visit the beautiful Langtang National Park and move further to the end of valley to gaze in admiration at the mountains’ serene rugged features all around you. You can start your trekking from Sundarijal, which is on the fringes of Kathmandu, though many prefer to start from Dhunche Village or Syabru Besi, which is a Sherpa village situated on edge of Langtang National Park. As you trek along the lower section of the valley you pass through the traditional Tamang village and feel the amazing calmness and scerenity all around you. There is dense forestation on the way with rhododoendron, oak, pine, bamboo and other trees flurishing here along with many wild flowers and different species of exotic birds. Hence during the springs the trek is all the more exotic and colorful. It also enables you to get close to the glaciers and climb up the nearby peaks to get a more enchanting view of the surroundings. The trail further leads to the valley of Kyangin Gompa. You can put overself to rest for the night here and can check out the local yak cheese.  Then passing through Nubamatang hidden in the bosom of the valley you trek all your way up to the glaciers which are located right next to the border with Tibet. Then from there you back track and travelling through Syabru and Sing Gompa you reach to a high plateau, this is where the sacred lake Gosainkund is all there for you to be seen.  Then from there you cross the Laurebena Pass which is about 4610m and continue south through the Helambu valley, leaving the Langtang region behind.

Wild Life

While trekking along the Langtang National Park you may come across a variety of wild life like Musk deer, Himalayan tahr, Himalayan black beer, snow leopard, wild goat, Goral, monkey and approximately more than 250 species of exotic birds.

Food and Accomodation

Let your money talk while you walk. That is, you don’t have to worry about what to eat and where to sleep when you on the trek. They are listless number of tour operators who arrange for your food and lodging with their trekking packages.

List of Equipments

Before you set out for trekking, please ensure that you have your Trekking Boot, Thick Socks, Light Socks, Camp Shoes, sandals and warm clothings with you which are essential apart from your other basic everyday necessities.

Precaution

It is advisable that you check out your ascend as per your body adaptability, because quick ascents and low oxygen levels at over 3000m can create complications for you like headache, dizziness, lethargy, loss of appetite, nausea, breathlessness and sleeplessness. Hence it is also advisable to have some medication with you.
