Christening according to Myth:-
Once the Lama used to have penance in the cave nearby. In course of time, his beard grew much longer. As the Lama sat there unmoved, a bird made nest in his long beard.Later a fort was made there. Thus in memory of the fort which was made in the place where bird made curious nest, the place was named Charikot.
Since people from Dolakha did not agree to keep Administration in their place, Charikot had been the Center for Administration since Rana Regime.
Charikot lies at an altitude of 1980m above sea level on a hill.
Its moderate type of climate attracts both domestic and foreign visitors in all seasons.

How to reach:-
133km far from Kathmandu lies Charikot. Buses and Microbuses are easily available from Old Buspark of Kathmandu which departs at regular interval. One has to pass through other favourite tourist areas like Dhulikhel, Pachkhal, Dolalghat, Khadichaur, Mudhe Bazaar and Kharidhunga to reach finally at Charikot.
Where to stay:-
Since it is the district Headquarter of Dolakha and a major Trading Center, lots of resorts, lodges and big and small hotels can be found in abundance with varieties of services and mouth watering cuisines.
Although Charikot has an ample in itself to be regarded as the final destination, it can also be taken as the transit point in Hiking to Eastern Himalayan Range and it is wise to stay here for a night for those who cannot reach Jiri.
